This year we visit gardens around the coastal area of Taranaki and various gardens of both festivals!

OAKLEY GARDEN – 79 Lower Normanby Rd, Manaia
Join festival stalwart Jenny Oakley who has entered her garden into the festival for the full 30 years. Just 2km from an exposed coastline, shelter is an important aspect for the Oakley Garden. Features include brick walls and pillars, cottage style plantings, early flowering roses, vegetable potager and the remarkable hanging baskets for which she is renowned. Plants for sale

WILLOW CREEK – 599 Auroa Road, Manaia
Approx 6km from SH45. We dared to be different. Want to see what we did? Built a railway, just like a kid. Village called Giggleswick in tudor style, even a dolly room to make you smile. Plants, crafts, gardens and trees, we really have tried to please. Garden called Willow Creek amongst the leaves. Pete and Liz your hosts.

OPENLANDS – 1064 Auroa Road, Manaia
Nearly 60 years ago, Openlands consisted of a homestead and two trees. Now it’s a well-established country garden perfect for weddings – there’s even a wooden church on site. With Mt Taranaki as a dramatic backdrop, this garden provides a magical setting for special moments and garden outings. Sweeping lawns, mature trees, perennial borders with camellias, rhododendrons and roses combine with aviaries, a shade house, native dell and natural stream to create a garden of surprises and tranquillity. Plants for sale

KEN KORA – 197 Ihaia Road, Opunake
With fun and great passion, Michael and Kerry have created alfresco settings in their stylish garden, which encircles the 107-year-old villa “KenKora”. Buxus hedges and roses surround the property, with mass plantings providing year-round green-leaf glory. Soak up the atmosphere under the towering pohutukawa or explore the living areas inside the graceful home, where home-baking and a cuppa are available. Plants for sale.
KenKora is also hosting two Esk Valley wine-tasting sessions.
There’s also a pop-up shop featuring one-of-a-kind clothing made with love by Louise Stichbury, a “wearable art” fashion designer from Wellington.

LES ‘N’ ROSES – 10 Hughson Place, Opunake
Just some of what cannot be seen from the street on our heavily planted third of an acre section. We have 5 boundaries with a very narrow frontage. Access available from front and rear entrances. Rear entrance sign posted off Ihaia Road, with plenty of parking for buses, vans, cars. Mostly wheelchair friendly. Plants for sale.

THE DOBBINS – 69 Whitcombe Road, Opunake
A redeveloped, large country family garden. New and old features, brick arches, raised gardens, trees, shrubs and perennials. Several water features and other surprises. A great garden for a wander.

GLEN ARTEN – 638A Watino Road, Opunake
This relaxed country garden is a place to meander and enjoy vistas and thriving plants. There are also stories in this garden – there’s a bridge opened by a former Prime Minister, dry-stone walls made by Catherine and a battle over extending the boundaries. You’ll find a stone-walled stream, water wheel and bridges, offset by shrubs, cherry trees, rhododendrons, maples, magnolias and hostas. With strong bones laid by Catherine, Glen Artan is perfect for a peaceful stroll while taking in magnificent views of Mt Taranaki.

TROLOVE GARDEN – 309 Patiki Road, Pihama – Opunake
Beautiful old established garden with mature shrubs and trees, a wide variety of plants, a large orchard, vegetable garden and a quirky walkway, swimming pool surrounded by climbing plants.

Be quick to secure your seats!!
Thank you!
